Nitro v vs s35vn

S45VN steel achieved a CATRA score of around 143% relative to 440C in edge retention testing. In comparison, S90V steel offers about 40% better edge retention than S45VN steel. The higher vanadium content of 9% in S90V versus 3% in S45VN leads to a higher volume fraction of hard vanadium carbides that resist abrasive wear, which gives S90V an ....

20cv is an equivalent of m390 if I'm not mistaken and will have better edge retention and corrosion resistance. Sharpening should still be able to be done with a sharpmaker but obviously reprofiling or removing major damage will be very difficult without pretty abrasive rods but the same can be said for s30v and s35vn. 20cv is an improvement in my opinion.S35Vn. The hardness level of the CPM S35Vn is quite similar to that of the CPM 3V. It boasts an HRC rating of 58 to 61 on the Rockwell’s Hardness Scale. With heat treatments, the HRC can go up to 64 so the steel is definitely impressive in terms of its hardness levels. And as for the toughness, well you won’t be disappointed about it either.

Nitro-V. $ 6.89 - $ 1,204.49. The Baron's Nitro-V by NJSB is a cutting-edge martensitic stainless steel tailored for the knife-making craft. Enriched with Nitrogen and Vanadium, it optimizes AEB-L's best qualities, delivering exceptional edge performance, high hardness, and extreme corrosion resistance, especially in marine environments.CPM S35VN is a hard, corrosion-resistant steel with superb toughness, edge retention, and relative ease of sharpening. It is a good choice for knives that will be used for general-purpose tasks. CPM S90V offers superior wear resistance and edge retention, but it can be quite challenging to sharpen and may not be as tough as CPM S35VN.One source speculated that edge retention should be about the same as AEB-L, another source that tested the steel showed an impressive result showing higher edge retention than many popular steels including s35vn, Cpm 154, d2, 3v ect. That test only tested one knife in nitro v vs many in the other steels.Sort by: BladesBoss. • 2 yr. ago. True Nitro V steel comes from New Jersey Steel Baron. To my knowledge it’s the only source. The steel was designed and produced in collaboration with Buderus Steel as a version of Uddeholm AEB-L modified with nitrogen and vanadium. It’s considered fairly easy to sharpen, and holds a good edge.

S35VN is a tough, corrosion-resistant steel with excellent edge retention and relatively easy to sharpen. It is a suitable choice for general-purpose knives. M390 is an extremely hard steel, offering superior edge retention and corrosion resistance. However, its high hardness makes it somewhat more brittle and challenging to sharpen than S35VN.At A Glance. S35VN has more niobium, which leads to finer carbides, increasing toughness and allowing it to get a finer edge. It’s unlikely you’ll notice much of a difference, but on paper, S35VN is better. It's available in s35vn with G10 scales (which are ugly to me, so I'd want to dye them all-black) or in 4V with black micarta. The latter looks way nicer to me, but I'm slightly nervous about the getting a non-stainless steel. My understanding is that the 4V would likely hold a sharper edge for longer, but would be prone to corrosion.S110v for ridiculous edge retention, harder sharpening, and more brittleness. AR-RPM9 steel has a hardness of 58-60HRC as per the Rockwell hardness scale. This is high hardness expected to be found in high-end knives from reputable brands like Cold Steel or Spyderco. The high hardness is associated with the high carbon content and the presence of vanadium and cobalt in its composition. The ESEE 4 is a chubby knife.
